This year we have 8 new challengers ready to battle-it-out against 8 contenders from 2009.  Losers from the first round in the 2009 playoffs were replaced with new contestants (sorry Jack Sparrow), but they may be invited back next year.  (The only exception is Stede Bonnet who lost to Blackbeard in the first round.)

If you remember, the winner of the 2009 playoffs was Blackbeard–the scourge of the seas.  Although he will not be a contestant this year, he will go toe-to-toe against this year’s winner to defend his crown as the #1 Best Pirate Ever!

Now that's Awesome!

This year we’re trying something completely different with our animated cartoons.  In the past, we would develop one script at a time.   If we liked one of them, we would work on it — but we only had a certain amount of time to dedicate towards it.  If the specific episode had a lot of new visual content to create, this would really slow us down. 

A while ago Murc came up with a genious idea to lessen the work load and to deliver content on a fairly regular basis.  He suggested we create a full-length movie, but to chop it up into smaller pieces.  We could distribute the cartoons via Youtube on a monthly basis, and eventually have our first season.

We quickly came up with a good premise and, before long, the pieces started to fall into place.  Eventually the script turned into approximately 40 pages.  (For the record, a 3 page script is about 2 minutes of air time for our cartoons.  So, you do the math.)  At this stage of the rough draft, we’re going to work on tweeking.  We also won’t begin the season until Murc gets his new computer, which he states he must get because “Diablo III is coming out”. 

Anyway, we thought we should give you fans some heads up.  The title for the new season isn’t official, but all I can tell you is that this entire project will be awesome…

Pirate-type stuff that has nothing to do with this post.

Greetings, fellow pirates and enthusiasts!  It’s been six months since we last posted anything significant, and we truly apologize.  All of us who work on the site have been caught up in our personal lives, and unfortunately The Seabeaver has been on a bit of a hiatus because of it. 

Recently we spent some time re-grouping and discussing the future of the series.  We both agreed that the maintenance of a flash-based web site takes a lot of time and money that can be better used elsewhere.  After serious consideration, we decided we will transfer all of our animated features onto video sites like YouTube.  At some point, we intend to pull our current website from the server.

It is important to stress the point that this is not the end of The Seabeaver.  We are simply re-envisioning the series and moving the project onward and upward.  It is our goal for this blog (The Crow’s Nest) to eventually become the new Seabeaver site.  This will take time, and we will probably be re-structuring it over-and-over again.  However, this blog is something that I (Red Beard) can single-handedly manage, freeing up a lot of time for Murc to work on more important things — like the cartoons! 

Speaking of projects, this new platform will focus on more than just animation.  As much as we loved the old site, we feel the new path we are taking will give us the freedom to develop creative content outside of the Flash world.  We will feature more creative writing, similar to “Davy Jones Locker” and “Seabeaver Tales”.  We are also looking into developing live video features, as well as new Mizzen content whenever it comes along. 

Although we will lose some of the charm our old site has, we feel we will get more out of this new layout.  For one thing, we will finally have the ability to get instant feedback and comments from our fans.  By hosting our content on a blogging site that allows people to easily view and share information, we hope to reach as many people as possible. 

Ultimately, this was a tough decision to make.  Murc and I have worked on this series for a very long time.  After all that is said and done, though, we do not really feel like we are losing anything.  We are actually gaining a better platform to showcase The Seabeaver in all of its piratey glory!

Keep in mind, none of this is going to happen overnight.  When it does begin, we hope to make it as smooth of a transition as possible.

We didn't have the heart to tell him Mizzen was spelled wrong.

According to him, “MISEN is a wapoint in the Air Traffic System as a latitude / longitude point used along an airway route, much like a highway for a car.”  So, apparently all of that gobbledy-gook on the monitor actually means something after all.  Go figure.

Anyway, thank you Jordan for this awesome picture!  We personally believe it has nothing to do with air trafficking, but rather it’s an homage of awesomeness to our band.  And you may want to give those FAA people a dictionary so they can spellcheck next time.  Just saying…

It’s been months, but we finally released a new cartoon: Bloody Morgan.  It’s our very first holiday episode, proving that we should never really attempt to do one again seeing as how it’s 5 months late.  Oops!  Our bad!  Anyway, we hope you enjoy it.

This year we’ve modified the Valentine’s Day Card website so you have more choices.  Either:

1. Click on an image to snag the URL field so you can post it to a friend via MySpace, Facebook, or whatever other god-forsaken social networking site you use. 
2. Print a sheet of 4, which contains all 4 cards.  (There is one for each series.)  This is mass-production at its finest!  Just think how much fun your little ones will have handing these out in Miss Hackleberry’s 3rd Grade classroom.
3. Print a sheet of 1.  This is great for you poor bastards who just want one card and to save a little bit of squid ink.  You people make me sick.
